8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
I had to think long and hard about this verse as I believe that God is always with me. But I suppose being “with” a person can also have a distance attached to it. Someone may be with you, but be on the other side of the room, but if they notice that you need them, they will hurry to your side. That’s how God is there but not invading your space if you don’t want Him to.
It is so sad that, only now I realize how comforting it is to have God “near” me. I don’t want Him on the other side of the room, I want him right beside me. Then, when I forget how to behave properly, He can gently nudge me back into place.
I am so glad that I have God in my space, because without Him my life would be empty, unbearable and without purpose.
I can only thank God for his patience with me and pray that He will never leave my side.
