The programs and activities governing the form of worship of Haenertsburg Christian Church shall be based upon, and at all times be consistent with, the following creeds and beliefs.

1. The Sacred Scripture

We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in their original writing as fully inspired of God and accept them as the supreme and final authority for faith and life. 1. Revelation

The following books are not read by the Church for examples of life or instruction or any doctrine:

  • The Third Book of Esdras.
  • The Fourth Book of Esdras.
  • The Book of Tobias.
  • The Book of Judith.
  • The rest of the Book of Esther.
  • The Book of Wisdom.
  • Jesus the Son of Sirach.
  • Baruch the Prophet.
  • The Song of the Three Children.
  • The Story of Susanna.
  • Of Bel and the Dragon.
  • The Prayer of Manasses.
  • The First Book of Maccabees.
  • The Second Book of Maccabees.

2. The Trinity

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – who is everlasting and of infinite power, wisdom, and goodness; the maker and preserver of all things both visible and invisible.

3. The Lord Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Father, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary and is true God and true man.

4. All Men have Sinned

We believe that God created man in His own image; that man sinned and thereby incurred the penalty of sin which is death, physical and spiritual; that all human beings inherit a sinful nature which issues (in the case of those who reach moral responsibility) in actual transgression involving personal guilt.

5. Salvation is Attained through Christ Alone

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins – a substitutionary sacrifice according to the Scriptures – and that all who believe in Him and confess His Lordship are justified on the grounds of His shed blood and complete sacrifice. Thus, it is a belief of faith and not works.

6. The Resurrection of Jesus

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into Heaven, and His present life as our High Priest and Advocate.

7. Return of Jesus

We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

8. Being Born Again

We believe that all who repent of their sin and receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.

9. Baptism in the Holy Sprit

We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit, empowering and equipping believers for service, with the accompanying supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit.

10. Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ appointed two ordinances – Baptism in water and the Lord’s Supper, to be observed as acts of obedience and as perpetual witnesses to the cardinal facts of the Christian faith; that Baptism is the immersion of the believer in water as a confession and a public profession of his faith in Christ and by so doing identifying with Christ in burial and resurrection, thus experiencing what the Bible calls the “circumcision of the Spirit,” and that the Lord’s Supper is the partaking of the emblems symbolic of the Saviour’s broken Body and shed blood, in remembrance of His sacrificial death, till He comes.

11. Sanctification

We believe the Bible teaches that without holiness no man can see God. We believe in the doctrine of sanctification as a definite, yet progressive work of grace, commencing at the time of the new birth and continuing until the consummation of salvation.

12. Praise and Worship

We believe in the worship of the Lord through singing, instruments, clapping, dancing and the lifting of hands as long as it is from a heart of love for the Lord.

13. Prayer

We believe in prayer as man communicating with God and visa versa and that a believer has the authority to ask freely of the Lord for his needs and also to hear from God in different ways such as dreams, visions, trances, spontaneous thoughts, illumination of the Scriptures and God’s audible voice.

14. Stewardship

We believe that every man is the steward of his life and resources which ultimately belong to God and that tithing is a measure of obedience to the scriptural principles of stewardship.

15. Divine Healing

We believe that divine healing was provided for in the Old Testament and is an integral part of the Gospel.

16. Body Ministry

We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit to the Church as well as Him ministering to the body through fellow believers in songs, hymns, words of encouragement and prophecy; as well as the anointing of oil by the elders of the church.

17. Evangelism

We believe that evangelism is the obligation of every follower of Jesus Christ, as He gave the command to all believers to go out and make disciples of all men.

18. The Church

We believe in the Church as the eternal and universal Body of Christ consisting of all those who have accepted the work of the atonement and regeneration by the Holy Spirit; and believe in the need for a local assembly of believers for the purpose of equipping, training, edification and evangelism and therefore, that the new birth and personal confession of Christ are essentials of Church membership.

19. Divine Ordination

We believe in the divinely ordained positions of Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher.

20. The Priesthood of All Believers

We believe that every believer has a unique relationship with the Lord Jesus and that every Christian has immediate access to the throne of Grace and the ability to manifest the power of the Lord Jesus Christ in ministry and thus that we are all called to be ministers.

21. Authority & Submission

With regard to submission to authority, we believe in the principle of being in authority because you are under authority. As such, it is understood that membership shall be subject to submission to authority in matters pertaining to church governance, doctrine and personal behaviour.

22. Church Discipline or Excommunication

We believe the Leadership of the local church has the authority from the Scriptures to withdraw the membership of any member for serious, unrepentant, ungodly misconduct or similar cause that is against the Holy Scriptures or our beliefs. This would involve the person being cut off from the unity of the Church fellowship and not even being greeted by church members. Should the person repent, he would be welcomed back into fellowship with the Church.

23. Blessing of Israel

We believe in the promise of Genesis 12:3 regarding the Jewish people and the nation of Israel and that this is an eternal covenant between God and the seed of Abraham to which God is faithful.

24. Eternal Blessedness and Eternal Banishment

We believe in the resurrection of both the just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed, and the eternal banishment of those who have rejected the offer of salvation.

25. Marriage

With regard to sexual behaviour, we believe in heterosexual relationships between a natural man and a natural woman within the confines of lawful matrimony. Adherence to this stated principle of sexual behaviour is an inherent requirement of membership of Haenertsburg Christian Church.

26. Marriage of Bishops, Pastors, Reverends, Priests and Deacons

Nowhere in the Scriptures are we ever commanded by God’s laws either to embrace the estate of single life or to abstain from marriage. Therefore it is lawful for all Christian men to marry at their own discretion and without any restrictions.

27. A Christian Man’s Oath

We believe that our word is our bond and thus vain and rash swearing is forbidden by our Lord Jesus Christ.

28. Openness

The Church is open to any further truth which the Holy Spirit may illuminate from the Scriptures.
